Story of Sanur: the fortress and its plain

A town at 550 m south-east of Jenin, famous for its fortress walls and for Sanur plain, the third largest plain in Palestine at 15,000 dunams.

Sanur is one of the municipalities of Jenin governorate, in its south-eastern part, at about 550 m above sea level.

It grew around a towering hilltop fortress whose walls still stand. In the late Ottoman era Sanur was a fortified village of the Jarrar family that limited the authority of the Ottoman governors and of the Tuqan family of Nablus.

The town overlooks the 15,000-dunam Sanur plain, the third largest in Palestine. Its population was 4,067 in 2007 and 5,036 in 2017.
