Inside the walls of the Old City, custom has long divided Jerusalem into four quarters named after their communities: the Armenian, Christian, Muslim and Jewish quarters.
That division does not sum up a city counted among the oldest inhabited in the world, and whose Old City is a World Heritage site. Its alleys hold markets and crafts centuries old that cross all four quarters.
Some 8.5% of the workforce of the Jerusalem governorate works in industry — about half the national rate in Israel (15.8%) — while Jerusalemites outpace national rates in other sectors.
