Industry in Tubas district remains small, concentrated in building materials and foodstuffs — above all the making and canning of pickles of every kind, a small trade that tied the district’s name to its table.
On the land, families hold wide agricultural areas; the main crops are vegetables, onions, olives and stone fruit. Farming methods have improved so that productivity per unit has more than doubled, and residents also raise livestock.
Today the town’s markets trade in electronics, cars, furniture, household goods, clothing and consumer items — while a jar of pickles keeps the story of the land.
